good for just a programmer and an artist :)

pros: I liked the gameplay. Very unique and well thought-out. You should expand it!
The board-style game was unique in this competition full of platform games. It stands out, which is good :)

cons: the art made it very difficult to distinguish between colors. There's just too much going on.
there's no mute button - make sure you include one, as some people like to play games with their own music.
it was too simple, and the story didn't show through at all with the game. It's like giving a full background story to checkers.

FlyingColours responds:

Thanks for the review! I think you're right that the game didn't reflect much of the story. If I had time, I would have had a bit of story before each battle. (Believe it or not, the thing in the middle of the last level is a castle.) There is a mute button. You can find it on the first page. There should be an 'M' button next to the music.

Good!

Pros: I like the controls, the physics, even the levels are pretty cool

Cons: I jumped to the top of the screen and stayed there throughout the entire level. Ever been flying mario, and just flown across the top of the level? Well, think of that, only you get to keep that power indefinitely.

you obviously have a head for programming. This is where I will start.

The problem is this: I was confused the second your game started playing. I couldn't figure out what to do where, or even which way was up.

First: You need a preloader.
Second: You need a "play" button
Third: A small tutorial (any tutorial larger without a medal in it will just bore everybody)
Fourth: Debug. Debug. Debug. I was in a corner, the ball was everywhere, and "me gusta" was laso everywhere. I am a programmer. I don't mean the ball was simply moving. I mean it tried to be everywhere at once. Which obviously doesn't work unless the setting for your game is quantum theory (an amazing game idea, by the way. I may need to use that somehow >.>)

Other than that, I see great potential in you. Not the game, unfortunately. I would be surprised if it lated judgement. But you. Keep going. Watch tutorials, read online sources. If you don't know how to do it, search google! That's what I did. Check out my profile, you will see a difference in the games.

wow, it's been almost a year now, and I am replying to your comment...
I really have to say, thank you, for encouraging me! :)
I'm still a student as before, but now I'm into Java coding
It's been a tough year for me and your comment really helped me get through things :) Thank you again!

One neat little trick I learned (for AS2, anyway. I'm fairly sure you can do it with AS3 as well, but i've never tried it)

Go to file -> Actionscript settings -> and set "export frame for classes" to 2
Now take all of your frames and move them over one frame. Go to your library and takes all of your components and fonts and check "export for actionscript" and uncheck "export in frame 2 (or 1 for fonts)"

finally: make sure there is no text or components on frame 2 (they all need to come after)
and put a tiny little preloader on frame 1

congratulations, you now have a preloader that actually loads from the beginning (rather than a blank white screen and a loadbar halfway done)

as for the game:

graphics: 9/10 (only thing better would be 3D)
gameplay: 7/10 - if you want a true FPS, you need to set movement controls based on rotation (for example w will always move the character foreward) easy enough to do. The simplest way would be to simply put the character in a new movieclip and add the directional controls to the inner clip and rotation to the outer clip - a bit messy, though
AI: 10/10 - they don't get much smarter - the AI programmer also accounted for the difficulty levels. I like
overall: 9/10 - good job, I hope to see more from you!

fun

very fun and challenging. I liked the new concept

whoa!

Hey! You stole my idea! Lol! (first one is named "the trip".Still working on it.) Good game, tho.

good, but...

you should check out my flash submission, the biggest cheater, and it will tech you all the ways to cheat on these games. right-clicking isn't the only way to cheat.(make it to the last level on my game and see what i mean.)Otherwise, great game!

AndrewGlisson11 responds:

i still haven't viewed that flash, but i do know a second way to cheat.

right click, and when the menu pops up, click on "foreward" and you will go foreward a frame. do that enough and you win!

lol

reign of chaos. I have that game. was just about to play it when i saw this. I hope it's good!

rook to f8

rook to f8 in exersicise 2: 2 would foil the plan.

I'm me. I is me. Me is also me. You are you. So really, it's mostly about me. Questions?
